Quick and Easy Nibbles for GAME DAY

I love serving the standards. Normally most the ingredients are out of the cupboard. Sometimes you have to pick up an item but usually you can make do. Here are three old timers that are always welcomed, for tailgating or sitting at home watching the game.
Some quick and easy snacks to serve at home or [...]

What Grandma Used

I learned some more about the irons I have all over the house.
We have quite a few. And I had nothing to do with them. My
husband would find them and bring them home.
This had to help enforce the need for the women’s movement.
These things are extremely heavy.  The ones with this shape:

Are twenty pounds.   And you [...]

Jan’s Sensational Scarf

I’ve had this book for a little while. I think I made one
item in it.  Actually it’s a fun book. It has some nice
ideas.

Then today I was wondering what I’d do
with a pretty variegated hank of blue-white yarn.
I think what caught my eye was the brilliant blue.
Plus it was on sale, at my local yarn [...]

A gardener’s journal

I’m tired of winter. Pretty as it is, it’s enough. And it’s only
January.  I found my old gardening  journal.  Long before
the home computer.  I used to write ..with a PENCIL.
(can you imagine).   It was fun looking back. These
pictures and entries were from 1994.  This is a seedling
bench my husband built me for Christmas. It’s solid as
a [...]

January Snow

These are some pictures of our January.

More from the kitchen window!

This is the window view from my computer

This is our little pond.  Our dogs always considered it
their own private swimming hole. Which was nice except
when you were expecting a house full of company.

Inaugural Poem

Our local morning Fox news has done quite a job
criticizing. Elizabeth Alexander’s inaugural poem.
I didn’t watch her reciting it, but I did hear her. I
always find it easier and less distracting if I can
listen to a poem or speech. Without watching the
speaker. This way I can grasp
the intent.

I thought it was well [...]

It doesn’t stop

Out of the bosom of the Air,
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
     Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
        Silent, and soft, and slow
        Descends the snow.

Chemo Caps

I finally finished off a few chemo caps. I took the instructions
from Head Hugger Hats……..
(on the side bar)Head Huggers: Patterns List

The first is the “cable knit cap”  #11

.

Then # 20 “The inside out knit chemo cap”

.

And this is a standard cap, it has a little ribbing, then plain knit.

I still have a full skein of [...]

Saturday Ramblings

We’re anticipating 10 inches of snow, falling tonight into tomorrow’s late afternoon.
That’s normal for this time of year, however we still have 8 inches of hard packed
solid, frozen snow on the ground now. Our walk ways and road are in fairly good
condition. We have enough sand and salt on both to start our own [...]
